CLARKSVILLE, TN — Austin Peay State University recently had the highest fundraising year in university history. In fiscal year 2022, APSU raised $27.6 million in donations and pledges from 2,367 donors. This amount represents a 47% increase in average annual fundraising from last year’s $14.6 million and a 31% increase over the past five years.
“We are proud that this momentous achievement can help our university reach new heights,” said APSU Vice President for Alumni, Engagement and Philanthropy Kris Phillips. “Many great programs and initiatives are on the horizon for Austin Peay, and we are excited about this time of transition. We would like to thank all of our governors family who made this possible. They have given us much to celebrate, now and in the years to come. »
“Govs Together” was the theme for Govs Give 2022, the University’s sixth annual online giving event, recognizing all that members of the APSU community can accomplish by working together. From 10 a.m. April 19 to 7:27 p.m. April 20, donors donated $497,158 to support APSU’s Excellence Funds for Academics, Athletics, and Student Affairs. This year, nearly 549 alumni and friends gave 601 gifts at Govs Give. This number included 84 new donors and the average amount donated during the campaign was over $800.
APSU faculty and staff donated $22,375.33 at the event as part of their participation in the SHAPE Campaign, the University’s first giving initiative designed specifically for them. The SHAPE campaign shines a light on how faculty and staff use their gifts and talents to shape all areas of Austin Peay.
“As we approach the University’s centennial celebrations in 2027, fundraising and community engagement are critical priorities for this university,” said APSU President Mike Licari. “This is a landmark year in the distinguished history of Austin Peay, and I am confident that there will be many more triumphs to come for our university community. We appreciate all of the alumni, donors and friends who have given back to APSU this year and in recent years, and their investment is key to our future success.
Throughout the year, approximately $5.1 million in endowment funds were committed and 35 new endowment funds were funded or created. Community members and alumni have also donated to various projects and programs in all areas of the University. A historic donation of $15 million has been pledged in 2022 to the APSU Athletic Department by Joe and Cathi Maynard. This is the largest one-time donation in Austin Peay’s history, and will be used to further the goals of Austin Peay’s “Total Gov Concept” of athletics by helping to upgrade facilities at all athletics facilities, expanding student-athlete commitment to performance. excellence, student-athlete development, and recruitment and retention of coaches and staff, among other goals.
Named 2020 Philanthropists of the Year by Austin Peay, Joe and Cathi Maynard have given generously to the University since 2017, including improving the baseball field – now named Joe Maynard Field – and the softball field – known as Cathi Maynard Park. Their donations have also benefited many other areas of the University, including the establishment of the Joe and Cathi Maynard Family Excellence Fund at Austin Peay. They have also made significant donations to establish both the Dr. Joe E Maynard, Sr. Education Endowment, the George J. Reed, Sr. Veterans Scholarship Endowment, and the John & Frank Hindsley Veterans Endowment.
