Cisco Partners with University in Singapore to Invest $ 40 Million in Research

Cisco and the National University of Singapore (NUS) have partnered to launch an ‘enterprise lab’ to spur research development in five key areas, including artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and healthcare health. The partners have committed to invest SG $ 54 million ($ 40 million) over five years.

Called Cisco-NUS Accelerated Digital Economy Corporate Laboratory, the research center is located on the university’s Kent Ridge campus and is supported by the National Research Foundation Singapore (NRF), according to a joint statement released Friday.

The lab would employ more than 100 researchers, analysts, engineers and students, and would work on 15 research projects. Grants would also be awarded to doctoral students involved in such projects.

Researchers, for example, would develop AI algorithms to improve the search, extraction and learning of knowledge from data collected in work environments. In the health field, researchers would seek to provide hospitals with “distributed and coordinated” intelligence to improve operational and clinical efficiency.
