Kobe-Jordan Rrooms advances to NCAA I East Preliminaries


BALTIMORE, Maryland (May 20, 2022) — Kobe-Jordan Rooms of the Morgan State men’s track and field team qualified in the triple jump for the NCAA Division I East Preliminaries. Held in Bloomington, Ind., the NCAA’s Division I Track and Field East Regional begins Wednesday, May 25 and runs through Saturday, May 28. The triple jump is scheduled for Friday, May 27 at 6 p.m.

Rrooms will be one of 48 triple jump competitors and 36 Division I programs, and joins Norfolk State’s Isaac Haywood as the only two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) student-athletes competing in the preliminaries. NCAA Division I Outdoors.

A native of Montego, Jamaica, Rrooms enters the competition as the No. 21 seed. He earned the ranking after breaking a school record 51.70 meters during the Morgan State Legacy Track & Field Meet, which s is held at Morgan on April 23rd.rd. Rrooms has dominated the triple jump this season, most recently recording a gold medal performance of 15.31 meters at the MEAC Track and Field Championships in Norfolk, Va.

Rrooms is currently wrapping up what has been a sensational college career and he was recently recognized as the student-athlete of the year at the 34th Annual Morgan State Athletic Awards Banquet.

The grad student began the indoor track and field season by being named MEAC Indoor Field Performer of the Week after posting the highest score in the triple jump, jumping 15.91 meters to win the event at the Navy Invitational. He led the Bears with 20 points and repeated as an outstanding athlete on the field at the MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships where he medaled in all three of his jumping events recording a silver in the vault in height (6-10.75) and bronze medals in the triple jump (49-09.75) and long jump (24-4.5).
