Lamar University student wins Texas State University System award

The Texas State University System Board of Regents has officially recognized the recipients of the Regents’ Professor, Staff, and Student Scholar Awards for 2021.

Taliah belcher, a major in accounting and finance at Lamar University, was among the recipients of the Regent’s Student Award.

The award is intended to honor students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance, leadership abilities, and contributions to the institution and the community, according to the system.

The TSUS Board of Trustees is a nine-member governor-appointed board that oversees seven institutions, including the Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College Orange, and Lamar State College Port Arthur.


The winners of the Regents’ Teacher Award for 2021 will be officially recognized at the February Board of Trustees meeting at Lamar University in Beaumont.

Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) has received a commitment from Cloeren Incorporated, a tooling supplier for the plastic extrusion industry, to invest more than $ 500,000 in the implementation of the new program. mechanical, manufacturing and maintenance of LSCO.

The donation includes an initial investment of $ 300,000 in machinery and $ 200,000 in scholarships over the next four years. Additionally, one of the goals of the $ 200,000 set aside for scholarship funding will be to encourage gender diversity in the field by training more women to enter the male-dominated industry.

The company also engaged resources such as steel for classroom use, cutting tools, cutting fluids, and staff from Cloeren to provide lectures and instruction to students in the program.

Paid part-time internships for LSCO students enrolled in the program will also be available. These students may also be considered for future employment with the company after graduation.

Education First Federal Credit Union (EFFCU) employees raised more than $ 13,400 through its annual Blue Jean Friday Fund.

This year’s fund will help finance the construction of a new playground for students at Homer Drive Elementary School and support the Shorkey Center.

The Shorkey Center specializes in effective individualized educational programs that include early childhood education and therapeutic services focused on children with special needs.
