The Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics (LSGI) is widely regarded as a center of excellence in both geomatics education and research and related fields. The department offers a range of academic programs to local and international students, including a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Surveying and Geoinformatics, a Master of Science in Geomatics, and a Doctorate in Philosophy. LSGI has a very strong research program which encompasses research activities in the fields of urban computing, big spatial data analysis, geographic information science, satellite positioning, ubiquitous positioning, photogrammetry and remote sensing, geodesy and geodynamics, environmental monitoring, geohazard studies, intelligent transport systems, smart city, utility systems management, location-based services, geographic social sciences and geophysical survey near the surface. There are currently 23 academic staff, 12 support staff, over 50 research staff and doctoral students in the department. The total number of students is over 500. The department is looking for highly motivated and qualified individuals with research expertise in any of the following areas: Land Surveying, Geographic Information Science, Spatial Data Science, Near Surface Geophysical Surveying on Underground Utilities .
The appointed person will:
(a) assume teaching duties at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
(b) coordinate and supervise student seminars, tutorials and projects / theses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
(c) contribute to the planning, administration and development of programs / curricula / subjects;
(d) help organize scholarly activities and pedagogical exploration related to the learning experience of the students;
(e) perform administrative duties in academic and departmental affairs; and
(f) perform any other task assigned by the head of department or his delegates.
Applicants must have:
(a) a master’s or doctoral degree in land surveying, geographic information science, geophysical surveying near the surface of underground utilities or in a related field;
(b) at least three years of post-qualification experience in higher education and / or relevant professional, practical or industrial experience, and proven professional experience;
(c) effective teaching skills in the classroom and being open to the use of online and blended learning modes;
(d) good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; and
(e) a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and professional service.
Remuneration and conditions of service
A very competitive remuneration will be offered to you. The initial engagement will be on a fixed-term contract with tip. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should indicate their current and expected salary in the application.
