Maryland University System Announces New SU President

SALISBURY, Md. — The Board of Trustees of the University System of Maryland has announced the next president of the University of Salisbury.

Dr. Carolyn “Lyn” Ringer Lepre has been named the League’s next president. Dr Lepre is currently acting president of Radford University and will begin her term as SU president on July 15.

“It is an absolute honor and a privilege and I am extremely grateful to have been elected President of Salisbury University. I was impressed from the moment I heard about the opportunity. I looking forward to joining this community of people who are so focused on student success,” Dr. Lyn told 47ABC.

Dr Lepre has served as Acting President at Radford since 2021. She will succeed Dr Charles Wight, who has led the university with distinction as President since July 1, 2018.

Prior to serving as interim president, Dr. Lepre was provost and vice president for academic affairs at Radford. We are told she has collaborated with the academic leadership team and student-centered faculty and staff to advance critical initiatives designed to foster the delivery of high-quality academic programs and experiences and support Radford’s strategic plan. These efforts included the launch of the Campus Academic Success Center; a distinctive new general education curriculum; the creation of an autonomous school of nursing; the creation of a partnership with the Appalachian School of Law which has created dual degree programs; and the development of three online accelerated study programs (RN-to-BSN, MBA and MSN).

Dr. Lepre joined Radford University after a very successful tenure at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. While there, she served as Dean of the School of Communication and the Arts and Director of the college-wide honors program. Prior to her years at Marist College, she was a faculty member at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and California State University in Chico.

“I am thrilled to join such a prestigious, student-centered and forward-thinking university,” said Dr. Lepre. “The University of Salisbury’s commitment to student success, academic excellence and a focus on inclusivity and belonging aligns with my personal and professional values. I particularly look forward to working in partnership with and to celebrate our most important resource – our motivated employees. Enabling students to excel as scholars, citizens and practitioners and instilling a passion for lifelong learning is a responsibility and a incredible privilege. I am deeply honored to be the next President of Salisbury University, and look forward to being part of the Sea Gull Nation.
