BALTIMORE, Maryland (January 4, 2022) – Morgan State Head Tennis Coach Matthew Townes announced the 2022 Morgan State women’s tennis schedule. The spring schedule includes 19 competitions, including four at home, and is highlighted by a two-day review from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
The Lady Bears, who have seen their 2020 season cut short due to Covid-19 and did not play during the 2021 campaign, will take the pitch for the first time in 2022 when they visit George Washington (January 19). This will be the program’s first contest since March 11, 2020 – a 6-1 victory over Loyola Maryland.
Morgan State will host Saint Francis-Pa. in Baltimore for its home opener on Jan.23, before hitting the road for games at Navy (Jan.30) and James Madison (Feb.20).
The Lady Bears return home for back-to-back games against Georgetown (March 5) and Harford Community College (March 6), before hitting the road again to face Elon (March 13) and former MEAC foe North Carolina A&T (March 16) ).
Next up will be the three-day MEAC reunion in Cary, NC (March 17-19), where Morgan State will face off against members of the MEAC’s Southern Division. Morgan State will face North Carolina Central (March 17), Norfolk State (March 18) and will end against South Carolina State (March 19).
Morgan’s next seven contests will be on the road, starting with non-conference contests in Loyola Maryland (March 24), Bloomsburg (March 29) and Temple (March 30).
The Lady Bears will be the MEAC roster at Howard (April 2) and Delaware State (April 4), before returning to non-conference action at the University of Delaware (April 12). Morgan State will complete its road schedule against MEAC rival Coppin State (April 16) before closing the regular season at home against neighboring foe Johns Hopkins (April 17).
The 2022 MEAC Championship will be held Thursday April 28 through Saturday April 30 at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, NC and will be hosted by North Carolina Central.
“The ladies had a tremendous fall; they trained hard every day and competed at a high level in every event we participated in,” said Townes. “We are delighted to start competing as a team. Our expectations are high and we are eager to seize the opportunity. Go bears! “
