Election season often gives a platform, especially social media, to a coterie of self-proclaimed critics to influence public perception of the election campaign, some are knowledgeable on the subject and x-ray the process and candidates based on campaign issues, candidate manifestos, skills, integrity and track record of contributing to community development to help voters make informed choices; the second clique are the supporters of a political party and its candidate, anything they say about an opponent is scrutinized by the people as part of their self-interest to determine its veracity, in this case a deliberate lie against an opponent will be seen as mere politician politics; the third category is that of narcissists who have disguised their purpose and made people believe that they are fighting the cause of society, they assume the role of public commentators but in their phantom role they deliberately spread lies, sow hatred and polarize people in their usual lives defamation antics, this category is the focus of my article following the alleged establishment of the University of Biomedical Technology in Gashua, Baden Local Government Area, Yobe State.
Last week, the misinterpreted saga of the so-called university flooded social media platforms with all kinds of commentators inside and outside the senator’s constituency who nibbled at the situation and, trailing, he was evident that many opinions were unchecked and insensitive to the social relations and peaceful coexistence between local government areas and enjoyed by people who have no history of prejudice and political antagonism.
Social media posts on these issues were unwarranted allegations of nepotism, tribalism and selfishness allegedly promoted by Senate Speaker Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan (Sardaunan Bade), despite clear evidence of equal distribution of projects and social investments in the constituency.
Senate Speaker Lawan is not a tribalist person and never will be by the grace of God. It is unfortunate that the disgruntled elements have accused him of tribalism and patronage, securing more jobs for his relatives. Instead of delving into the facts, he’s on a mission to unravel the senator’s tribalist leanings, but has deliberately and short-sightedly resorted to a smear campaign to rail and spread a ridiculous, concocted story to discredit and paint black. a good leader.
Unfortunately, we allowed the outpouring of emotion, calling our hero all sorts of absurd names to abandon our sense of reason, a man who works selflessly and tirelessly to improve the living conditions of the people in our area; it is sad that we have failed to protect Lawan from the envious attacks of people in other areas of the state who now offer a narrative that the position of the President of the Senate is for the entire state, d Where the impact must be felt beyond his zone, we have instead collapsed into intra-zonal feuds that are capable of straining our strong and cordial political relations that have existed for decades.
It is laughable that the war of words on social media has mostly been between overzealous young people from the towns of Gashua and Nguru, the two main beneficiaries of the senator’s constituency plans, with each group claiming the opportunity to set up the University in their city, those for Nguru argue that Gashua already has a federal university and that it would be too selfish for the senator from Gashua to allow two federal institutions in one local government, they labeled it “Gashua, the only local government with two federal universities” – an apparent justification for selfishness, isn’t it?
On the other hand, the youth of Gashua think that Nguru has a federal medical center and a federal college of science of technology, so why not found the new university in Gashua, quite a plausible argument, isn’t it? ? However, they forget that there are four other LGAs which are also entitled to benefit from these facilities, but no doubt accept the centrality of the two major cities as centers of business, governance, social and urban development in The area.
While responding to voters in other areas, we agree that Damaturu and Potiskum are the most suitable places to establish the institution but we appeal to your sense of common sense to set your objectives from our prism, we voted for the distinguished Senator since 1999, those who lacked patience and understanding refused to come to terms with the fact that as a member of the opposition party he had little leverage to impact the area, but we trusted him and kept the faith while you enjoyed the federal presence especially in Potiskum and we had no problems with that now that it is our turn we hope you will congratulate us and especially the senator for raising the bar of performance so that it becomes the general measure of performance for people in elected office.
Finally, I forget, if it is appropriate to call on our elders on occasion to make the effort to intervene and ease the tension that ensues whenever the situation requires their wise counsel, that would to save the cost of doing so at election time when young people draw the machete and are ready to defend an ill-informed story. It is now easy to put it aside my dear compatriots the so-called university of medical sciences and biotechnology is a medical school to be established in federal universities the name is used in political language when politicians want to do appear something small bigger than itself to amplify their accomplishments, and they make it look weird.
