The University of Tokyo will launch a new satellite education center in Yaesu, in the heart of Tokyo, offering professional training and development for workers, as well as other programs for a wide range of students. The new educational base will begin its launch in October 2022 with an interdisciplinary smart city planning course for professionals, Smart City School.
The UTokyo Yaesu Academic Commons, as the center is called, will be located at the center of Tokyo Midtown Yaesu, a new complex of business and commercial buildings next to Tokyo Station. It will provide convenient access to a wide range of people, serving as a space where they can take classes, attend lectures and engage in collaborative group work, and will be conveniently located within the transport and economic link of the capital, Yaesu, to transmit information. and initiate human resource development programs for workers to address contemporary social issues.

The UTokyo Yaesu Academic Commons will begin its launch by offering the Smart City School, an educational development program for working professionals, followed by other programs in a variety of fields planned for the future.
The Smart City School is designed to promote the digital transformation (DX) of cities and local authorities, and foster the development of smart cities that can solve regional problems and lead to the creation of new values in communities. The program consists of lectures and discussions on the latest technologies and new methods of urban development, by professors active in the front line in specialized fields related to UTokyo. A hands-on introduction to cutting-edge technology at state-of-the-art research sites and on-site case study tours at the forefront of the smart city field complete the intensive program designed to allow participants to grasp the essence of cities. intelligent and acquire the thinking and knowledge necessary to become DX leaders.
